LaSnug exists because shopping for pet insurance is unnecessarily murky. Most “free quote” tools hide their math and are really lead-collection forms. We do the opposite: show you a realistic price band first, explain how we got it, and only then point you to insurers.

How our estimate works

Our monthly estimate is generated from a transparent model, not pulled from an insurer. It combines five inputs:

• Species base rate — anchored near published U.S. averages (dogs cost more than cats; rabbits and birds less).
• Breed risk factor — breeds prone to costly hereditary conditions are weighted higher.
• Age — premiums rise as pets get older.
• State — local veterinary costs vary widely, so your state adjusts the figure up or down.
• Coverage level — Essential, Balanced, or Premium changes both the price and what's included.

We then show a low–high band rather than a single number, because real premiums also depend on the limit, deductible, and reimbursement rate you choose with each insurer.

How we make money

LaSnug is free to use. When you click through to an insurer and buy a policy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never changes the estimate you see, and we only list insurers we'd genuinely consider ourselves.
